Frequently Asked Questions

  • "Psychotherapy is primarily a talk-based therapy and is intended to help people improve and maintain their mental health and well-being. Registered Psychotherapists work with individuals, couples and families in individual and group settings. Psychotherapy occurs when the Registered Psychotherapist (RP) and client enter into a psychotherapeutic relationship where both work together to bring about positive change in the client’s thinking, feeling, behaviour and social functioning. Individuals usually seek psychotherapy when they have thoughts, feelings, moods and behaviours that are adversely affecting their day-to-day lives, relationships and the ability to enjoy life." from the website of the CRPO.

  • Choosing a therapist is a very personal experience based on your needs and your personality. One key predictor for therapy effectiveness is the relationship between the therapist and the client, so it's important that you feel your therapist is the right one for you. We recommend that you speak with your therapist before you start a session with them, so that you can ask them any questions you may have and get to know them a little bit. Huron Perth Wellness & Psychotherapy offers free consultations prior to booking a first session.

  • If you've had a bad experience with therapy in the past, you can let your therapist know, and tell them what it was that you didn't like. Every therapist - like every individual - is different. We all have different styles and personalities that impact the effectiveness of therapy. Don't be afraid to ask us questions!

  • Therapy with a Psychotherapist is not covered by OHIP. However, you may have coverage under a 3rd party insurance provider.

  • Most insurance plans cover Registered Psychotherapists, but it's a good idea to check first. Most insurance plans will determine what type of therapist they cover based on the therapist’s title/credentials. Check with your insurance provider to make sure that Registered Psychotherapists are covered.
